Description:
Learning about the elements and principles of art is an interesting experience. In class we did a project on the elements and principles of art. We had to define each term and find a picture to represent each one. The following five pictures are some of the examples that I took pictures of. They represent emphasis, contrast, color, unity/variety, and movement.
This picture represents emphasis. The first thing your eyes are drawn to is the clear, blue car. The blurry back round helps emphasize the car.
This picture represents contrast. Contrast represents the difference between elements. The red rose contrasts the green leaves.
This picture represents color. Color uses a combination of hues, value, and intensity to create and show colors.
This picture shows unity and variety. These principles show the connectiveness of visual elements. The flowers all show unity and their different colors show their varieties.
This picture shows movement. Movement directs a viewers eyes through the piece. In this picture, your eyes are directed down, following the falling cards.
Extension Activity:
As an extension activity I would pair up my students and send them around the school on a scavenger hunt. Each pair would be assigned three different elements or principles. They would have to find two or three examples around the school, take pictures of them, and present them to the class. In their presentation they would give the definition of the element or principle and explain why the picture represents it.
