Summary: In class we learned about Vincent Van Gogh
and had a chance to look at some of his work. We reviewed some of his facts and
works on a Power Point presentation. This allowed us to take notes of Van Gogh
and retain information about him that we would use for our projects later. The
piece that inspired our work was Starry Night. We used Starry Night as an
inspiration to create our own pieces using tissue paper. We picked either cool
or warm colors, tore them into strips and pieces, and attached them to our
backgrounds. Then used another piece of construction paper and created a
scenery to attach to the paper. Using oil pastels or crayons we created
movement on the tissue paper.
Extension Activity: An extension activity would be looking
at a different piece of Van Gogh’s work or using Starry Night and having the
students create their own version. They could choose between different medias
on how they wanted to create their piece. Their pieces would then be showcased around
the room and the students would have to attach a fun fact about Van Gogh and a
fun fact about their work.
